Fueling Your Incredible Body.
Can we just take a minute to recognize how incredible our bodies are? There are so many things we take for granted without intention, simply because our bodies run automatically without active effort on our end.
Think about it: Your body, right now, has lungs that are breathing without any effort. You have a heart that is beating. Eyes that are seeing, and an actual physical body that can feel, hear, see, smell, taste, walk, dance, lift, run, and provide you with coordination without even thinking about it!
So how do we take care of, and show appreciation toward, this incredible body that is working on our behalf with little to no effort on our part?
Fuel it Intentionally.
Here’s how it works:
Our bodies are incredibly smart, biological and metabolic machines. They are constantly responding to the fuel & stimulus we provide it, and utilizing/storing nutrients as it anticipates how you are going to use it.
Nutrition is the #1 foundation that drives everything from energy levels & how we feel, to cognitive function, & how our bodies are performing overall.
Nutrition impacts how our bodies perform at a cellular level to drive everything from basic functions of survival such as immune function, breathing, hormone function, and digestion, to specific tasks we are asking of it such as building muscle, recovering from injury, and taking on fat loss goals.
That’s the magic – your body will literally respond to anything you ask of it. You have so much more power in influencing how your body feels than you realize.
The better you fuel your body and the more you understand what your body needs, the better you can take care of your body! Nutrition is the #1 foundation, and everything else is additive from there.
In our high paced lives, we often think about food as a response to “holy cow I’m super hungry!” or as a social activity. These are not bad things – but our high paced lives & fueling our bodies as a last minute thought vs. an intentional process in our daily routines has created habits that are not helping us feel or perform our best, whether it’s for everyday life activities, performance in our careers, or performance in our sport.
In spite of what you may have learned or been told, fueling your body does not have to be complicated, and it doesn’t need to take a lot of brain power to implement!
You don’t have to follow a “diet” that limits or removes foods or food groups. It doesn’t have to be Keto, Low-Carb, Carnivore, Intermittent Fasting, or anything in particular. These are STRATEGIES that CAN get you specific results, but they are short term strategies - not sustainable strategies for life.
Instead, you can build systems that work for you and your season of life. Optimizing your personal nutrition needs becomes another, nearly effortless, routine.
Optimizing Daily Nutrition.
Here are some tips to help you reclaim your time & enhance your nutrition right now:
1 —
Understand Calories.
Calories are a measurement of energy. Calories describe the amount of energy you use/burn every day, as well as the amount of energy you consume in the form of food and beverages. If you consume more energy than you use every day, you will gain weight. If you consume less energy than you use every day, you will lose weight. If you consume the same amount of energy that you expend each day, you will maintain your weight. Giving yourself enough calories for your specific energy needs can influence your energy levels, stamina, and strength as well (how you feel in your body).
2 —
Understand Fueling Needs.
Work with a nutrition coach to get a personalized eating guide put together with your personalized inputs, that will tell you how many calories you need to maintain or improve how you feel in your current lifestyle, or how you need to eat in order to achieve a specific goal such as fat loss, body re-composition, muscle building, or athletic performance. I can help you with this.
3 —
Be Intentional.
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. If you know where you are and where you are going, you can decide on the kind of approaches you want to take to get you to the goal in an efficient manner. Set yourself up for success by planning WHEN you are going to eat, WHAT you are going to eat, & prepare for any roadblocks or potential disruptions to your desired flow for the week.
Learning to fuel our bodies intentionally for our current lifestyle, performance, or competitive goals can empower you to take actions that will help you feel your best, and help you perform your best mentally & physically every single day.
